FIU’s Cold Spray and Rapid Deposition Laboratory (ColRAD) Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

On October 11th, Florida International University unveiled the highly anticipated Cold Spray and Rapid Deposition Laboratory (ColRAD). FIU is the first university in Florida to house this state-of-the-art facility with high-speed 3D printing methods such as cold spray and wire arc direct energy deposition (DED). Representing a leap forward in advanced manufacturing technologies with a focus on high deposition rate additive manufacturing. More than 25 researchers are developing groundbreaking technology for 3D print using powder, wire, and rods.

ColRAD’s mission is to usher in a new era of innovation by designing, building, and repairing structures with unparalleled strength and durability. These materials are used to manufacture next-generation vehicles and munitions. Helping defense forces quickly manufacture parts in the field and repair while in combat zones. The inauguration of the ColRAD Laboratory was made possible through a $22.9 million grant from the Army Research Lab and strong support from the Florida Congressional delegation.
